Tools of Your Trade - #03 Bram & Marta Timmer

1. Name and profession
Bram Timmer / Creative Director

2. Where do you work?
Wild Forest Inc.

3. What inspired you to start?
I grew up in a small town, bordering a fairy tale amusement park called De Efteling, so I was immersed in visually rich storytelling from an early age. What inspires me the most is the ability to go through life and explore it without the conformity of traditional expectations and restrictions. Being plugged into the Internet via a dial-up modem and being an early adaptor of Flash certainly helped pull me into a world of “what if”.

4. What's inspiring these days?
Reading about counterculture movements such as the Beat Generation; traveling as much as you can to get exposed to new people and thought; grounding yourself again out in nature.

3. What inspired you to start?
I first started drawing when I was about 8 or 9. Everything was fun and new and an opportunity to play and develop my imagination. As I entered my teens I turned inward and became reclusive but I lived a rich internal life, which spawned a whole new interest in art and visual culture. I learned that the artist is an observer, often on the outside and looking in, digesting the world and spitting it out, to provoke a thought, to change the world...

The artist’s journey is ultimately about two things: learning how to see, and learning how to show what you see...
